About BTEC Early Years

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) enables learners to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow them to work with children from birth to 5 years. Upon achievement of the Level 3 Extended Diploma it is intended that learners will be able to access higher education or enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.

This is a professional qualification that offers opportunities for both professional and academic development. Theoretical studies will be conducted during the three days of study in school, whilst the remaining two days will be spent gaining valuable practical and professional skills in a range of early years placements. There will be an opportunity of a final specialist placement, which could consist of a primary or special school placement to meet the requirements set for some university courses or for student interest and professional development. The course is demanding, working through 15 units of study, as well as two extensive external research projects. Students will scrutinise a range of theoretical studies from classical to modern day theorists, as well as experience the working of Reggio Emilia and be taken onto a journey into the mind of an autistic child. The course forms the foundations of the journey to become an excellent practitioner of young children.

The course will develop students’ independent research skills using our extensive research library and their ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to an audience of all ages.
